This woods of the Apache is what the title means. It is a National Wildlife Refuge on 57 thousand acres. Twelve thousand of the acres is moist bottomland and dedicated to the birds. We saw most of them except for the cranes. Actually we saw more than I thought we would being kind of late in the spring.
First we saw this pair of geese and their 5 babies. There are lots of canals thru-out the reserve.This pheasant was a surprise, I'm glad I had my camera ready. We would be driving along seeing nothing, then all of a sudden .... SURPRISE.
I'm not sure what kind of quail these are, except they are quail. I'm sure Mark will tell me. The visitor center was not open when we went in, so no bird manuals.
Here is Mr. Turkey, Mrs Turkey is right in front of him, but thought he was prettier.
There should be a picture of John in here, but don't see it. Will try to get it in the next post. The picture of him shows he was getting just a little bored .....
